The Reservation
The word 'reservation' is derived from the word 'reserve'. Reserve means that you determine the thing of place and the position of the people in any scenario. So reservation is simply setting the status. My main focus is reservation in our country. In our country, reservation in government jobs, government educational institutions and legislatures. In the legislature, there is reservation only for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). But others have reservation for Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Other Backward Classes (OBC) and ST and SC. At the centre, the distribution of reservation among castes is 27% for OBC, 15% for SC, 7.5% ST and 10% EWS. In general, you know the above information very well. Reservation is generally a burning topic between politics and society. When our country got independence, the Constituent Assembly wrote our constitution. The Constitution is giving equality to every citizen. But our constitution makers knew very well that caste discrimination was rooted in the society. Therefore, to solve this problem, the Constitution arranged for reservation. This is the right step because since ancient times people of the lower class have been being subjected to atrocities and reservation has been arranged to raise them. Some say that reservation is not correct because it undermines talent and violates the fundamental right to equality. We know that society is not equal on the basis of caste and you can see in your area too. Aristotle had said "injustice is arises not only when equals are treated unequally, but even when unequals are treated equally." How do we say that upper castes and lower castes are the same. There is still discrimination on the basis of caste in our society and you can imagine how much it was at the time of independence. As a human you can imagine whether reservation is right or wrong. After 75 years of independence, a new form of difference has arisen which is on the basis of money i.e. class difference. Class differences exist in all castes. In lower castes this is especially due to the benefit of reservation by the family of only a few persons, and due to the family background in the upper castes. The government provided EWS quota for unreserved but did nothing for the reserved category except OBC. We can easily see that the difference between reserved and unreserved category cutoff is decreasing not due to competition but due to class difference. I am not polarizing the reserved category but only discussing the reason behind the increasing cutoff and you are also a part of the same society in which I am living. EWS quota provided to unreserved which has many flaws as there are no strict rules for violating its criteria. Some politicians in our country are polarizing our society on the manipulated figures to get votes and they are gaining profit. We can see that reservation cannot solve the caste problem. Today only reservation cannot solve the problem of caste and class difference, apart from being Indian, we need policies and schemes, there is no doubt that our governments are making schemes like Mid Day Meal, Eklavya Residential School etc. We as a part of the society should work for the upliftment of the lower castes. My aim is to make people aware, not to hurt people, caste or society. After this we will discuss class distinction, sub-categorisation and caste based census etc.
